The MinnPost Board of Directors is thrilled to announce today the appointment of veteran media and marketing executive Steve Yaeger as executive director and publisher, effective Oct. 1.
Steve brings more than two decades of executive leadership across media, enterprise technology, and branding to Minnesota’s premier all-digital nonprofit news organization. During his 13-year tenure at the Star Tribune as chief marketing officer and senior vice president, he led consumer revenue, corporate sponsorships, events, and brand strategy, playing a central role in transforming the newspaper’s business model. Since 2023, he has served as president of customer success at Momentara, a national leader in consumer marketing and out-of-home media.

As I and the rest of the board got to know him, it was clear that Steve has a rare combination of commercial acumen, deep media experience, and an unshakeable commitment to public-interest journalism. He has led the work of building a stronger brand, connecting with audiences, and persuading readers to financially support journalism and knows what it takes to earn people’s attention, trust, and support – all critically important to MinnPost’s future.
In his role, Steve Yaeger will have overall responsibility for MinnPost’s strategic direction, financial sustainability, and organizational health, while stewarding the newsroom’s strict editorial independence. He will partner closely with Executive Editor Elizabeth Dunbar and the MinnPost board.
MinnPost will celebrate its 20th year in 2027, and we’re excited to celebrate with you, our readers, as we begin the organization’s next chapter.
Steve will be at MinnPost Festival on Oct. 10, so if you attend be sure to stop by and introduce yourself.
Peter Hutchinson is the chair of MinnPost’s Board of Directors.
